World Cup Qualifiers: Portugal vs Andorra Predictions & Betting Tips

Euro 2016 champions Portugal look to get over their defeat in their first World Cup qualifier with a home match against minnows Andorra. Our free betting predictions suggest that a goal glut is on the cards for Portugal.

Portugal vs Andorra
When: 7th October, 19:45
Where: Estádio Municipal de Aveiro
Free Betting Tips: Portugal Over 4.5 Team Goals at 10/11 with bet365
Correct Score Predictions: Portugal to Win 6-0 at 13/2 with bet365

Portugal, despite not winning any of their first five matches in the tournament, somehow managed to win the European Championships in France in the summer. They beat the host nation 1-0 after extra time after five of their previous six games in the tournament had ended all square at the 90 minute mark. Their only normal time victory came in the semi final against Wales.

They followed this up with a 5-0 hammering of Gibraltar, but without Cristiano Ronaldo last month they struggled in their World Cup qualifying opener. They lost 2-0 when they visited the Swiss, which is a big blow to their chances of finishing in the only automatic qualification position with them being their main rivals for the top spot.

Portugal shouldn’t be having any issues against Andorra though. They’re playing a team full of amateur footballers and Portugal themselves have one of the world’s best players leading the line. At home they have won four games on the bounce, scoring 17 goals and conceding once in the process. Five of these goals came against Gibraltar, and another seven against Estonia before Euro 2016. They don’t seem to find it hard to break down teams like Andorra.

Andorra predictably lost their opening World Cup qualification match at home to Latvia. It’s no surprise really; they are the second worst team in these qualifiers according to FIFA rankings, only outdone by Gibraltar who sit joint bottom at 205th position compared to Andorra’s 203rd. This inevitably results in them finishing bottom of the qualifiers every time, including last time where they managed zero points, four goals, and 36 goals conceded.

Andorra’s last victory was back in 2004 when they beat Macedonia 1-0 at home, but away from home they have never won a match. In 72 trips away they have lost 64 and drawn eight. Their last 15 trips away have seen them lose 13 times and concede a huge 42 goals, scoring just a single goal at the other end.

This is really more of a case of how many will Portugal get. Cristiano Ronaldo is always up for bagging a hat full no matter who the opposition is, and Portugal have shown that they carry on attacking with their recent big victories over Estonia and Gibraltar. Both of these games have seen them score more than four goals, so backing Portugal Over 4.5 Team Goals at 10/11 looks good to me. I’m going for a 6-0 correct score prediction at 13/2 as well.

Head To Head
Portugal have unsurprisingly won all three of their meetings with Andorra, scoring 14 goals and conceding once.

Andorra have lost 87% of their last 15 away days, conceding 42 times and scoring just once.

Team News
Captain Cristiano Ronaldo is back for Portugal after recovering from injury, as is teenager Renato Sanches. Nani is also likely to start up front, whilst the likes of Pepe, Joao Mario, and William Carvalho provide further star quality.

36 year old defender Ildefons Lima is the most experienced player in the Andorra squad and will be tasked with leading the back line to try and stop Ronaldo. He is also the top scorer by a large margin, with his ten goals in 101 appearances bettering midfielder Marc Pujol’s two goals in 69 games.
