Paraguay vs Peru Prediction & Betting Tip

Paraguay vs Peru predictions for Thursday night’s South American World Cup qualifying tie. Paraguay hope to move into the qualification positions with a win on Thursday.

Paraguay vs Peru
When: 10.11.2016, 23:30
Where: Estadio Defensores del Chaco
Prediction: Both Teams to Score at 21/20 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: Paraguay to Win 2-1 at 15/2 with bet365

Paraguay managed an incredible result last time out when they beat Argentina 1-0 away from home in the World Cup qualifiers. This made it two wins from their four qualifying matches since the summer’s Copa America campaign, and it takes them to 7th in the table. They are just two points outside the automatic qualification positions as well, so they could end up in that stellar group by the end of Thursday’s match.

They did struggle in Copa America, but on home soil they have been remarkably resilient. Their 1-0 defeat to Colombia aside, they have won three and drawn four of their last seven home matches. The last two of these draws came against Argentina and Brazil as well, whilst the most recent victory was against Copa America winners Chile.

In terms of standout goalscorers, they don’t really have one. Derlis Gonzalez is a real talent going forward but needs some more international experience under his belt, whilst the ageing legs of Roque Santa Cruz restricts his playing time. If I was to go for anyone to make the difference on Thursday it could be Gonzalez though.

Peru have enjoyed a number of good results in recent months, but their poor start to the qualifying campaign is still haunting them. Their 2-1 loss to Chile last time out was their first defeat since before Copa America, and they have won six and drawn three of these other nine games.

Away from home things are a bit more troublesome though. They have lost seven, drawn one, and won one of their last nine away days. This is the main reason they sit down in 8th in the qualification table and six points adrift of the qualifying spots.

Their have been improvements from Peru during this time though, having scored in their last two away days and found the net in five of their last eight on the road. Paraguay, meanwhile, have conceded in eight of their last ten home matches. The hosts have scored in seven of them though, whilst Peru have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine away games. This makes odds of 21/20 for Both Teams to Score a very good value bet, and I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for Paraguay at 15/2.

HEAD TO HEAD
Peru have won four and lost three of their last seven meetings with Paraguay. However, Paraguay have won five of their six home games against them and drawn the other one.

STATS
Paraguay have scored in 70% of their last ten home matches but conceded in 80%. Peru have scored in 63% of their last eight on the road but conceded in 88%.

TEAM NEWS
Ex-Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is included in the squad, with the 35 year old’s 32 international goals still the highest in the team. Other notable figures include Roma forward Juan Iturbe, the promising young attacker Derlis Gonzalez, Paraguay mainstay Cristian Riveros, and Milan defender Gustavo Gomez.
Veteran striker Claudio Pizarro misses out on the Peru squad, leaving Flamengo forward Paolo Guerrero to captain the squad. The 28 goals he has scored make him the top scorer by a mile, with the next highest being midfielder Christian Cueva’s five goals. Benfica and Feyenoord defenders Andre Carrillo and Renato Tapia are also included.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score at 21/20 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: Paraguay to Win 2-1 at 15/2 with bet365
