Del Bosque bemoans ‘impossible’ draw

Spanish manager Vicente del Bosque has bemoaned an \’impossible\’ World Cup qualifying performance after his side were forced to settle for a shock 1-1 draw with Finland.

The reigning world and European champions seemed to be on their way to another victory after Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos scored the opener just after the half-time break.

But despite controlling a massive 82% of possession, the Finnish players caused a major shock when Teemu Pukki scored the leveller in the 79th minute and held on for a famous draw.

And Del Bosque was in no mood to look for the positives in a result that drops Spain to second position in Group I after France defeated Georgia 3-1.

\”It seems impossible that after dominating the first and second half we have drawn the match,\” Del Bosque said.

\”We could have been more composed in front of goal.

\”We couldn\’t create enough clear shots and we were unable to get the second goal to finish off the game.\”

\”We didn\’t contemplate the counterattack. We dominated the game so much that our defenders began to think that all they needed to do was attack.

\”They closed us down very well and then the unthinkable happened: they scored.\”

But Del Bosque refused to build the draw as a death knell in Spain\’s quest to reach Brazil 2014, believing there were enough games and points left for the reigning champion to secure their spot on the world\’s greatest stage.

However, next on Spain\’s radar is a glamour tie against former world champion France.

\”Our fate is still in our hands and we are still a great team. Beating France is possible. There are still four games left [of qualifying] and there\’s still a long way to go.\”
