Chile vs Peru Predictions & Betting Tips

Chile hope to move closer to the qualification zone of their World Cup qualifying group when they host Peru on Tuesday night. Our free betting predictions suggest that this could be a low scoring affair.

Chile vs Peru
When: 12th October, 00:30
Where: Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
Free Betting Tips: Under 2.5 Goals at 6/5 with bet365
Correct Score Predictions: 1-1 Draw at 8/1 with bet365

Chile have had an excellent couple of years as they managed to win the Copa America for the first time in their history last summer and then unbelievably managed to retain the title this year. They beat Argentina on penalties in both finals, and were almost single handedly the cause of Lionel Messi’s international retirement.

Things aren’t going so well for them in their quest to make it to the World Cup though. They lost 3-0 in Ecuador last week to continue a poor run of three games without a victory. It followed on from a draw at home against Bolivia and a loss in Paraguay, all of which contributed to their 7th placed standing in the qualifiers.

Only the top four teams get automatic qualification, whilst 5th place enters an inter continental playoff match. Chile are currently five points off 5th placed Argentina, so they have a lot of work to do to make up that ground.

Argentina would be further clear of Chile if not for Peru’s heroics. The visitors managed to earn an exceptional 2-2 draw at home against Argentina last week as they came from behind twice. This followed on from a 2-1 win at home to Ecuador last month as they look to improve their form.

Peru’s Copa America exploits ended on penalties after they held Colombia to a 0-0 draw, but prior to that they had managed to beat Brazil and hold Ecuador to a 2-2 draw in the group stages.

This all makes for a massively improved run of form for the Peruvians. Before Copa America they had won just one of their six qualifying matches, losing four of them. Now they have won five, drawn three, and lost one of their last nine games in all competitions. They are still some eight points adrift of the top five, but these signs are promising.

Peru may be in good form at the moment, but away from home they have struggled massively. They have been able to limit some very talented opposition teams though, with four of their last six away days resulting in fewer than three goals. This includes matches against Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay. Chile have only seen three or more goals in half of their last six at home as well, and they have failed to win each of their last four on home soil.

This makes odds of 6/5 for Under 2.5 Goals look a very good value bet, so I’m backing that alongside a 1-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.

Head To Head
Chile have won six and lost one of their last seven meetings with Peru.

Stats
67% of Peru’s last six away days have seen fewer than three goals, as have 50% of Chile’s last six at home.

Team News
Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo will captain Chile, whilst star players such as Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez are also present in the squad. Eduardo Vargas is another dangerous player, with him and Sanchez having 65 international goals between them. Defender Oscar Opazo is hoping to make his debut, whilst midfielder Leonardo Valencia is looking for a start after coming on as a sub for the first time against Ecuador.

Veteran striker Paolo Guerrero will continue to captain the team, and he’s hoping to add to his 28 international goals, one of which was against Argentina last week. 19 year old striker Luiz da Silva is hoping to continue his fledgling international career. whilst midfielder Sergio Pena and defender Nilson Loyola are hoping to make their debuts.
