Southampton vs Chelsea Prediction & Betting Tip

Southampton vs Chelsea predictions for Sunday’s late Premier League game. Chelsea look to bounce back from midweek disappointment when they face a Southampton side who are hard to beat.

Southampton vs Chelsea
When: 30th October, 16:00
Where: St. Mary’s Stadium
Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals at 4/5 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 6/1 with bet365

Southampton endured their usual rocky start to the campaign as they adjusted to the annual loss of their best players and manager. Once again they have managed to pull through the other side though and now look a very good unit.

Their 1-0 win over Sunderland in the League Cup in midweek made it six wins, three draws, and one defeat from their last ten games in all competitions. That one defeat was a very undeserved loss at Inter Milan as well, and two of their draws have been away to Leicester and Manchester City, so all in all it’s a pretty good time to be a Saints fan.

At home things are even better for them. They are unbeaten this season and have won five in a row at St. Mary’s, although an ominous sign is the fact that their last home defeat came against Chelsea in February.

Much of the credit to their success lies in their incredible defensive unit. They have kept eight clean sheets in their last ten matches in all competitions, and at the other end of the pitch Charlie Austin has scored four league goals, three of which came at home. He’s a good choice for an anytime goalscorer at 7/4, although this could well be a game of few goals.

Chelsea were knocked out of their first competition of the season in midweek as West Ham beat them 2-1 in the League Cup. Antonio Conte opted to play a fairly strong squad for this one, with David Luiz, Gary Cahill, John Terry, N’Golo Kante, Willian, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Oscar all fielded. Diego Costa and Eden Hazard made an appearance from the bench as well, so tiredness could definitely be a factor on Sunday.

This defeat will have been a bitter pill to swallow after their 4-0 demolition of Manchester United last weekend, and it ends a three match winning streak in which they conceded no goals.

Both of these sides are performing excellently at the back at the moment. Southampton’s defence is the best in the Premier League and they have been impenetrable recently, whilst Chelsea have the joint second best defensive record in the league as well. This makes odds of 4/5 for Under 2.5 Goals look a solid option, especially since seven of Southampton’s last nine outings have been low scoring affairs. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 6/1 as well.

Chelsea have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six meetings with Southampton.

71% of Southampton’s competitive games this season have seen fewer than three goals scored.

Southampton are racing to get Matt Targett, Ryan Bertrand, and Cedric Soares fit to solve their right back crisis. Shane Long is expected to miss out though along with Jay Rodriguez and Jeremy Pied.
Branislav Ivanovic is expected to be fine to play on Sunday, but Cesc Fabregas is out for a week with a thigh injury and Marko van Ginkel remains injured.

Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals at 4/5 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 6/1 with bet365
