Redknapp urges more from QPR

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has insisted his side need a number of repeat performances of their 3-1 victory over Sunderland to escape relegation.

QPR came from a goal behind to snatch three precious points against the Black Cats, with Loic Remy, Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas finding the back of the net.

And despite Rangers still footing the bottom of the Premier League, the result has moved the club to within four points of safety.

A delighted Redknapp said the squad\’s performance was worthy of the victory, believing his players had made considerable improvements in their style of play.

However, the 66-year-old was quick to stress they would need to continue this vein of form if they are to have any hope of beating the drop.

\”It was a good performance to come from 1-0 down,\” he told Sky Sports. \”I felt we didn\’t deserve to be one down as we started well with a good tempo, we passed the ball well – better than I have seen us play since I came here, in an attacking sense.

\”But to one down against the run of play but to come back and equalise, I felt it was an excellent first half.

\”In the second half they started well and for the first 10 to 15 minutes they were the better team, but we came back into it and got the goals at the right time.

\”But we have to do that week in, week out and we have to have a real run of results like that if we are to get out of this, we need 36 or 37 points and that six points in two games has made a real difference to us.\”

And after this latest setback, Sunderland are becoming one of the clubs QPR will be hoping to catch.

Martin O\’Neill\’s men have now suffered four defeats in their last five games, with a 2-2 draw against Fulham the only highlight of that run.

And with games against Manchester United and Chelsea to come in quick succession, O\’Neill knows time is running out to secure the club\’s place in England\’s elite competition.

\”It\’s a tough old set of fixtures for us between now and the end of the season,\” O\’Neill said. \”We need to get some points on the board.

\”The players in the dressing room are disappointed but we\’re looking to respond as we have done before.\”
