Middlesbrough vs Watford Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Middlesbrough hope to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Watford on Sunday. Our free betting predictions suggest that this could be a high scoring game from two sides in good attacking form.

Middlesbrough vs Watford
When:16th October, 13:30
Where: Riverside Stadium
Free Betting Tips: Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score at 6/4 with bet365
Correct Score Predictions: 2-2 Draw at 16/1 with bet365

Middlesbrough showed that they were ready for a return to the top flight during the summer as they brought in some big names to help them stave off relegation. Among them were Spanish duo Victor Valdes and Alvaro Negredo, and that seemed to have paid off when Negredo bagged a goal in their 1-1 draw with Stoke on the opening day of the season.

The Beast turned provider as he laid on two goals for Christian Stuani in Middlesbrough’s 2-1 win over North East rivals Sunderland, and it all looked rosy for the new arrivals. Defeat in the League Cup has sent them into a bit of a downward spiral though. They have now lost four and drawn two of their last six games in all competitions, with them dropping down to 18th in the Premier League.

Negredo may not have been firing since the opening day of the season, but attack isn’t where Middlesbrough’s problems lie. They have netted in all but one of their games this season, but they have also only kept one clean sheet and have conceded eight goals in their last four Premier League matches.

Watford had a relatively disappointing start to their season before threatening to rekindle the form that saw them rocket into the top half of the table in the first half of last season. They came back from two goals behind to beat the dreadful West Ham 4-2 away from home and then managed to deservedly beat Manchester United 3-1 at Vicarage Road.

However, defeat to new arrivals Burnley and a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth has seen the Hornets slump again. As with Middlesbrough, their problems lie in defence. Watford have scored nine goals in their last four Premier League outings, but they have shipped seven at the other end as well. Watford’s games this season have averaged just over 3.5 goals per game, whilst Middlesbrough’s have been clocking in at 2.4 goals per game.

Middlesbrough’s average has increased significantly recently though.Three of their last four outings have seen at least three goals scored, as have six of Watford’s last seven in all competitions. Middlesbrough have seen both teams find the net in all but one of their Premier League games as well, a record which Watford can match.

Both teams are in good attacking form but struggling at the back, and that could make for a very entertaining game. It’s also likely to be a high scoring one, and odds of 6/4 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score seem very long considering both sides’ form. I’m going for that along with a 2-2 correct score prediction at 16/1.

Head To Head
Watford have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six meetings with Middlesbrough.

Stats
Middlesbrough have seen Over 2.5 Goals in 57% of their games this season, including 75% of their last four. Watford have seen Over 2.5 Goals in 71% of their league outings, with both teams scoring in 86% of them. Middlesbrough have also seen both sides find the net in 86% of their games.

Team News
Fabio and Grant Leadbitter are both expected to miss out again on Sunday, but James Husband could be back in action after recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

Club record signing Isaac Success and Miguel Britos are both expected to shake off injuries and play, but Craig Cathcart is still out. Jerome Sinclair and Darryl Janmaat will also have to wait a bit longer for a return to action.

Correct Score Predictions: 2-2 Draw at 16/1 with bet365
