Kebe’s national lampoon

Reading winger Jimmy Kebe has mocked Newcastle United\’s recent spate of French signings by jokingly claiming he was also on his way to St James\’ Park.

Kebe, 28, joined the Royals from Lens in 2008 for an undisclosed fee and played a major role in the club\’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

Alan Pardew\’s side have already made three signings from Ligue 1 this January and now have 11 francophone players in the first-team squad. That number could increase with reports that Massaido Haidara and Moussa Sissoko are close to joining the club.

France-born Mali international Kebe wrote on his official Twitter account on Thursday: \”On my way to Newcastle, having medical then sign a 4 years contract (sic). Thank you all for your support you\’ve been outstanding!\”

However, as news quickly travelled of the impending transfer, Reading were forced to confirm that he was joking. The official Reading account tweeted: \”He\’s Jimmy Kebe – he jokes when he wants.\”

Kebe then tweeted: \”Oups (sic) I thought if you\’re french and play football you just pop into Newcastle and sign a contract. Not a chance of leaving #LoveReadingFc\”

Reading team-mate Danny Guthrie, who left Newcastle in 2012, was among those taken in by the joke.

He tweeted: \”Just read @JKebe tweet and s**t myself! Don\’t do that again.\”
