Real Betis vs Espanyol Prediction & Betting Tip

Real Betis vs Espanyol predictions for this Sunday’s clash in La Liga. Our betting tips suggest the spoils will be shared.

Real Betis vs Espanyol
When: 30th October, 17:30
Where: Estadio Benito Villamarín
Prediction: Draw at 11/5 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 5/1 with bet365

This game sees two recent Premier League managers meet with Gus Poyet moving to Betis and Quique Sánchez Flores to Espanyol over the summer. It hasn’t been a great start to the season for either boss though and both could do with a result here to lift spirits in their changing rooms and on the terraces.

Poyet has more reason to be content with life. Betis have picked up 3 victories to Espanyol’s 1 but they were hammered 6-1 at home by Real Madrid in their most recent home game, one of the heaviest home defeats in the club’s history. They’ve looked a bit lacking in the final third too in truth with not many of their new signings really making much of an impact, so they’ve been a bit reliant on veterans Ruben Castro and Joaquin for goals. Between them the duo have scored 64% of their teams goals this season and Betis average just 1 goal per game at home so they will need a strong defensive performance if they are to have a chance of winning this.

These sides look very evenly matched on paper though so it’s hard to pick a winner here. Espanyol have been a bit more solid in recent weeks and are unbeaten in 4 matches, if you include a 1-0 win over a weakened Barcelona team in the Supercopa de Catalunya in midweek. Their last 3 league games have been drawn though and 56% of their league games so far this term have finished level, making them the division’s draw specialists.

The former Watford boss would have been concerned by some of their early defensive showings, particularly the last time they were in this city when they lost 6-4 at Sevilla. Therefore, it’s understandable that he has been a bit more conservative and isn’t taking many risks of late. The visitors would probably be content with a point here and with Real Betis not looking that great they are capable of getting it. Therefore, backing the draw at 11/5 could be the way to go here.

The meetings between these two last term ended in convincing away wins on each occasion. Espanyol won 3-1 at Betis but hadn’t won on any of their previous 5 visits.

Espanyol have drawn 5 of their last 8 league games. Real Betis home games this term average exactly 2 goals per game.

Riza Durmisi has a knee problem so Alex Martinez should start at left-back. Chelsea loanee Charly Musonda is out injured while new signing Antonio Sanabria should partner top scorer Ruben Castro up front.

Striker Felipe Caicedo is missing due to suspension. David Lopez and Javi Fuego are expected to start in the middle with Marc Roca dropping out.

Prediction: Draw at 11/5 with bet365
Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 5/1 with bet365
