Ramos: Red card was ‘unfair’

Sergio Ramos believes he was unjustly sent off in Real Madrid\’s 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, claiming he is treated harshly by La Liga referees.

Ramos, 26, received his 16th red card for Real after picking up two yellow cards in the space of a minute, taking the focus away from his 12th minute goal for Los Blancos.

The defender was given his marching orders after just 18 minutes, forcing Jose Mourinho to rest on the comfortable two-goal lead and adopt a more defensive style.

But Ramos has no regrets for his first yellow card offence after shrugging off Roberto Trashorras.

\”I am hurt by the situation,\” he told AS.\”It is not normal for me to be sent off within two minutes. I\’m not one to come in with hard tackles or to do something evil. It\’s easy to send off Sergio Ramos. It\’s worrying.

\”It hurts me to have left my team-mates disadvantaged and to have forced changes. Spanish football deserves the best referees because we have the biggest players.

\”Referees are required to interpret situations. My first card was completely unfair. You cannot leave a team with 10 men for that.\”

Ramos is likely to miss next week\’s La Liga trip to Deportivo La Coruna, but will be well rested for the upcoming fixtures against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and the second-leg Champions League tie against Manchester United.

\”The two games are hugely important,\” he said. \”We are the first ones to be convinced that we can progress in the Copa and in the Champions League.\”

Real assistant coach Aitor Karanka echoed Ramos\’s assessment of the officials\’ performance, insisting his side have been outdone by a number of \’bad\’ decisions this season.

\”It doesn\’t surprise us at all,\” he said. \”We know what has happened before, and we are not surprised at all. It was bad for the match, which had started well for spectators.\”

Karim Benzema was an unused substitute during the match, although Karanka claims Jose Mourinho made his team changes to benefit Real in future matches.

\”These decisions are always made for the good of the team,\” Karanka said. \”The goal is that the people on the bench can help out.

\”The team played very well, even after the red card. At first, it was very tactical, then much more phyisical. We are hapy because we got all three points.\”
