Castro scores two in Real Betis’ win at Granada

Ruben Castro scored two goals and set up another to steer Real Betis to a 5-1 win at 10-man Granada in the Spanish league on Friday.

Granada bossed the opening phase of the match at Los Carmenes Stadium until Castro sparked a flurry of three goals near the half-hour mark.

The striker controlled a pass from midfielder Alvaro Vadillo, used one touch to gain a better angle and stroked the ball inside the near post.

Castro added a second goal two minutes later when he rushed forward to push home a chip shot by Dorlan Pabon that had come off the crossbar after Vadillo had played him clear.

The goals were Castro’s 14th and 15th in the league this season. Only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Radamel Falcao have more.

Betis’ first win in six away games was sealed in the 35th by Granada defender Inigo Lopez, who accidentally knocked Paulao’s header that had hit the woodwork into the net.

Moments after missing with a lobbed shot one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Castro laid off for Pabon to score in the 53rd with Granada’s defence in complete shambles. Pabon had to be substituted with an apparent leg injury 10 minutes later.

Carlos Aranda scored for the hosts in the 72nd. Angel Lopez capped the rout in the 85th after Granada right back Siqueira had been sent off for a second yellow card.

Betis provisionally rose into sixth place, one point out of fourth place and Spain’s last Champions League spot.

Granada’s seventh game without a win left it four points from the relegation zone.
