Tip: Newcastle United 2 – 2 Anzhi Makhachkala

Alan Pardew has made the Europa League Newcastle\’s priority after all but securing Premier League survival with their late victory over Stoke on Sunday. As a consequence, the Magpies are expected to name as close to a full-strength starting line-up as possible rather than the heavily rotated squad Pardew has selected so far in this competition.

Tim Krul remains out with an ankle injury though Rob Elliot has proved a more-than-able deputy, while Fabricio Coloccini\’s back injury keeps him on the sidelines. Pardew also hopes to have key wideman Hatem Ben Arfa available after continual hamstring troubles.

Anzhi have few injury worries and the match marks the return to England\’s shores for Yuri Zhirkov and Lassana Diarra. Guus Hiddink has a difficult choice up front, where he may be tempted to field all three of Samuel Eto\’o, Lacina Traore and Willian.

Probable lineups

Newcastle: R. Elliot, D. Simpson, S. Taylor, M. Yanga-Mbiwa, D. Santon, C. Tioté, Y. Cabaye, H. Ben Arfa, M. Sissoko, J. Gutiérrez, P. Cissé

Anzhi: V. Gabulov, A. Eshchenko, João Carlos, Ewerton, Y. Zhirkov, O. Akhmedov, L. Diarra, Jucilei, S. Eto\’o, L. Traoré, Willian

Prediction: Alan Pardew has promised a night to remember for what is sure to be a partisan home crowd at St James\’ Park. However, the Magpies will have to be wary of the counterattacking threat of the likes of Eto\’o, Willian and Lacina Traore and those three in particular could combine to cost the hosts a place in the quarter finals. Expect Newcastle to score but Anzhi\’s attack just makes them dangerous with the threat of an away-goal progression.

Tip: Newcastle United 2 – 2 Anzhi Makhachkala
