Lyon vs Juventus Predictions & Betting Tips

Lyon hope to break out of their spell of poor form when they face Juventus in the Champions League. We’re expecting goals to be at a premium here, and our free betting predictions reflect that.

Lyon vs Juventus
When: 18 Oct 2016, 19:45
Where: Parc OL
FREE BETTING TIPS: Under 2.5 Goals at 4/5 with bet365
CORRECT SCORE PREDICTIONS: 1-1 Draw at 6/1 with bet365

Lyon’s reliance on Alexandre Lacazette is plain for everybody to see. The star striker scored six goals in his opening four matches this season before being ruled out through injury. Since then Lyon have struggled.

They managed a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League group game and then drew with Marseille and beat Montpellier. However, they have since lost three of their last four games and have failed to score in all of these defeats. Lacazette came off the bench in their 2-0 defeat to Nice on Friday though, and whilst he couldn’t make the difference for the ten men of Lyon, his return will be a huge boost to the club.

Lyon’s star man remains their top scorer despite being out for the majority of the season so far, and he scored 23 goals last season and 31 the season before. You could do a lot worse than backing him to score on Tuesday.

Juventus predictably won their opening three matches of the Serie A campaign, and boosted by the arrival of the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Miralem Pjanic, and Marko Pjaca, they were touted as huge favourites for Serie A. A goalless draw with Sevilla and a 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan cast those predictions into doubt though.

The Turin giants have responded in typical fashion though, winning five games on the bounce, scoring 14 goals and conceding just once. This single goal at the wrong end of the pitch came in their 2-1 win over Udinese on Saturday. Young striker Paulo Dybala bagged both of Juventus’ goals in this game to take his season tally to four in all competitions.

As you would expect, it’s £80 million man Gonzalo Higuain who is leading the scoring charts though. Dybala’s international teammate has seven goals in all competitions and has scored four in his last four. Him, Dybala, and Lacazette are likely to be at the forefront of anything good that either team does going forward.

Whether that will be a significant amount or not remains to be seen. Lyon have seen fewer than three goals in five of their last six outings in all competitions, and despite Juventus’ high scoring ways in recent weeks they are facing a much better outfit than their usual Serie A opponents.

Lyon have conceded five goals in their last six matches despite their poor form, whilst Juventus have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five as well. This all points towards a high scoring match, a prediction which is boosted further by the fact that Lacazette may not be fully fit yet. Odds of 4/5 for Under 2.5 Goals look good value to me, so I’m backing that along with a 1-1 correct score prediction at 6/1.

Juventus have won both of their previous meetings with Lyon, with those coming in the 2013/14 Europa League.

83% of Lyon’s last six matches have seen fewer than three goals scored.

Full back Christophe Jallet is out, but fellow right back Rafael returned from injury on Friday. Midfielders Clement Grenier and Mathieu Valbuena are also out, as is striker Maxwel Cornet. Star striker Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench on Friday as he returned from injury, so he is in line to start on Tuesday.

Defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Medhi Benatia are back from injury, as is midfielder Claudio Marchisio. Youngster Marko Pjaca and midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah are both sidelined though, as is defender Daniele Rugani.
