Frankfurt’s goalless run reaches 4 games

Eintracht Frankfurt slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday as the promoted side failed to score for a fourth consecutive Bundesliga game.

Luuk de Jong\’s first-half header was enough for Moenchengladbach to end its four-game run without a win and move from 10th to sixth ahead of the rest of the weekend\’s games.

The Dutch striker rose highest to meet Thorben Marx\’s header on from a corner and guide it inside the far post in the 22nd minute.

\”It was difficult. We\’re happy to win 1-0,\” De Jong said. \”They also had chances to score — plenty of them.\”

Takashi Inui had Frankfurt\’s best chance after the break, but shot over under pressure from a defender and then poor finishing and dogged defending combined to frustrate the home side.

Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen denied Inui at the near post in the 71st, shortly before Stefan Aigner headed another good chance just over.

\”We\’re working well, but just missing that bit of luck,\” Frankfurt midfielder Sebastian Rode said in comments echoed by teammate Alexander Meier.

Frankfurt remains fourth but is coming under increasing pressure for the last Champions League qualification place.
