Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

Borussia Dortmund look to set a new club record as they host second place Hertha Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga on Friday. Our free betting tips suggest that the hosts will do just that.

Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin
When: 14th October, 19:30
Where: Signal Iduna Park
Free Betting Tips: Both Teams to Score at 19/20 with bet365
Correct Score Predictions: Borussia Dortmund to Win 3-1 at 9/1 with bet365

Borussia Dortmund will be bitterly disappointed with their 2-0 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga last time out, a result which left them trailing four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich and one point behind opponents Hertha Berlin. Dortmund should, nonetheless, come into this match brimming with confidence, simply for the fact that they are playing at home. The “BVB” are looking to set a new club record of 25 consecutive matches unbeaten at home in the Bundesliga, alongside their ever growing record of 22 matches unbeaten at home on a Friday night (W16 D6). Marco Reus, who has been unavailable so far this season due to injury, was back on the training pitch last week and could be set to make his first appearance, though likely on the bench.

Hertha’s bittersweet end to their 2015/2016 campaign, where their eventual 7th placed finish overshadowed their prior twenty-week-long stint within the top four, has clearly not knocked their confidence coming into the new season. Hertha’s quick exit from the UEFA Europa League in the third qualifying round meant their sole focus has been on the Bundesliga since the get go. Hertha are just one of three sides to have taken at least four wins from their opening six matches, alongside Bayern Munich and opponents Dortmund. Hertha bounced back from their 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in game-week four with a thrilling 3-3 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt, followed by a 2-0 win at home to Hamburg last time out. Striker Vedad Ibisevic, who will likely hold his role as striker ahead of Salomon Kalou, took his tally to five goals for the season by scoring both last time out.

Borussia Dortmund come into this match as huge favourites with the bookies at 1/4 – no surprise given their immaculate long term form at Signal Iduna Park. While we also fancy the hosts to take away all three points here, we feel Hertha Berlin will certainly put up a fight to counter Dortmund’s aggression. Dortmund clearly don’t struggle for goals, scoring 98 after 40 Bundesliga games under coach Thomas Tuchel and averaging 3.25 per match at home so far this season. However, Dortmund do often struggle to keep a clean sheet, even at home (see statistics). Considering Hertha Berlin’s overall form and the form of striker Vedad Ibisevic, who is the Bundesliga’s joint top scorer, we feel that both teams to score is one of the best bets available. Especially when considering that both teams have scored in four of Dortmund’s last five Bundesliga home matches.

As such, both teams to score at 19/20 and Borussia Dortmund to win 3-1 at 9/1 are our choice bets for this match.

Head To Head
Borussia Dortmund won 3-0 in Berlin when the two sides last met in the DFB Pokal in April earlier this year. The last Bundesliga meeting between them, which was also held in Berlin, ended 0-0.

Borussia Dortmund have won all but three of their last 24 Bundesliga home matches (W21 D3). Both teams have scored in four of Dortmund’s last five Bundesliga home matches and four of Berlin’s last four away matches. Dortmund have averaged 3.25 goals per game at home across all competitions so far this season.

Team News
Dortmund’s Marco Reus is out of rehabilitation training after his injury spell and could feature for the first time this season. Centre back Neven Subotic and right-back Erik Durm remain absent with long term injuries, while captain Sven Bender and winger Andre Schurrle remain doubtful.

Hertha Berlin have a few notable injuries to report: central midfielder Vladimir Darida, who was substituted off against Schalke last month with a torn ankle ligament, is out until December, and newly signed midfielder Ondrej Duda is out until the end of October. Star striker Salomon Kalou is back to full fitness. Although centre forward Vedad Ibisevic is likely to hold his position after scoring two against Hamburg last time out.
