Boenisch signs new Leverkusen deal

Bayer Leverkusen have rewarded left-back Sebastian Boenisch with a new contract until 2016.

Boenisch, 26, joined Leverkusen on a free transfer in November, after his Werder Bremen contract had expired at the end of last season. The Poland international was brought in as cover for injured Michal Kadlec and Daniel Schwaab.

Boenisch has started in the German club\’s last four games, scoring his first goal for the Werkself during their win over Frankfurt after the restart of the Bundesliga. He also set up a goal in Leverkusen\’s 3-2 defeat to Dortmund on Sunday.

\”I\’m really happy I\’ve been able to show what I can do here at Bayer,\” Boenisch said. \”I feel at home in Leverkusen and want to help the club achieve the targets set for the next few seasons.\”

An impressive period for Boenisch has seen him recalled to the Poland squad, with Leverkusen general director Rudi Voller saying he was happy \”that Sebastian has not only established himself so well here but also fought his way back into the Poland side thanks to his performances at Leverkusen\”.
