Stoke relishing Man City rematch

Stoke manager Tony Pulis is hoping his side can exact revenge for their 2011 FA Cup final defeat when the Potters face Manchester City in the fourth round.

A 4-1 extra-time win over Crystal Palace in Tuesday\’s third round replay means Stoke will face the Premier League champions, who defeated Pulis\’ side in the decider two years ago, on January 26.

Stoke received a lifeline after 35 minutes when Crystal Palace striker Jermaine Easter missed a penalty and it looked like the hosts were in control when Kenwyne Jones scored the opener with 20 minutes remaining.

But a late penalty to substitute Glenn Walters forced the match into extra-time, although there was no more joy for Palace as Jonathan Walters netted a brace and Cameron Jerome sealed the result for Stoke.

Pulis believes his side\’s successful runs in the last two FA Cup campaigns will hold them in good stead for an upset against City.

\”It is a great tie for us,\” he said. \”I\’m delighted we have got through and have the opportunity again to play Man City, which is always an honour for us as a football club.

\”We have only lost two in 13 FA Cup games and it would be lovely to make it two in 14.\”

Walters put his horror performance against Chelsea on the weekend behind him to send Stoke through and Pulis admits that the forward\’s two own goals and missed penalty against the Blues forced his selection on Tuesday.

\”I wasn\’t going to play Jon (against Palace) – I had decided on Friday that I would give him a rest,\” Pulis said. \”But then after what had happened on Saturday, I decided the best thing to do was to get him out there again.

\”And scoring the goals and playing the way he played, I think it\’s just great for him. It will wash away what happened on Saturday.

\”He gives everything, Jon. He is just a very gifted individual in lots of respects, and his biggest asset is his big strong heart and the British bulldog spirit he has got.\”
