Lazio, Genoa and Lecce face deductions

Genoa, Lazio and Lega Pro side Lecce are all facing potential points penalties for their involvement in alleged match-fixing during the 2010-11 season.

Magistrates in Cremona investigating the Calcioscommesse scandal have asked for an extension of the deadlines in the case which would effectively be until the end of the season.

They are continuing to examine events surrounding Lazio\’s 4-2 win over Genoa on May 14 2011 and their win over Lecce by the same score a week later.

Lazio are at risk of being deducted five points from this season\’s total – which, as they are currently only three points behind leaders Juventus – could deal a huge blow to their title hopes.

A points penalty for Genoa, currently third from bottom of Serie A, would further jeopardise their top flight status, while Lecce, second in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione, could also have their promotion push derailed.

Stefano Mauri of Lazio has been arrested twice during the investigation, as has Genoa\’s Omar Milanetto. Stefano Ferrario, of Lecce, is also reported to be central to the investigation.

A loss of points appears likely, with the same case having seen Napoli deducted two points after club captain Paolo Cannavaro and defender Gianluca Grava were suspended for six months for failing to report an attempted fix.
