Genoa players fined for breaking curfew

A number of Genoa players have been fined after breaking club rules during a birthday celebration last week.

Several unnamed squad members of the Serie A club apparently broke the club\’s strict 11pm curfew on Thursday as they enjoyed a party in honour of striker Antonio Floro Flores\’s recent return to the club.

The 29-year-old striker only returned to the Grifone on January 6 after leaving 18 months earlier for Udinese and the celebration has been widely criticised by fans in light of their subsequent loss to relegation rivals Cagliari this past weekend.

An official statement, published on the club website on Tuesday apologised for their conduct and said that the offenders had been fined, while the money would be given to various local charities.

\”Genoa announce that following the investigation into the violation of the internal code by its players in a dinner last Thursday night, these players have been punished,\” the statement read.

\”The club confirms the money from the fines will be given to the family of Matteo, a child in need of medical care, as well as other charitable causes.

\”The members of the squad also wish to apologise to the club and its supporters for their behaviour, assuring that in future incidents of this nature will not happen again.\”
