Celtic revel in title win

Celtic captain Scott Brown was a relieved man after watching his side cruise to the Scottish Premier League title after thumping Inverness 4-1.

Neil Lennon\’s men are now 15 points clear of second-placed Motherwell with four league games remaining and Brown was happy to see Celtic get over the line.

\”It\’s a relief. I think it\’s always nervy toward the end,\’\’ he said on Sky Sports 4. \”It\’s always nervy going towards the end and just getting over the line, but the main thing is we\’ve managed to do it and we\’ve brought the cup home.\” Celtic\’s title challenge was strengthened by Rangers\’ demotion to the Scottish Third Division at the start of the season, but Brown pointed to their European exertions – where they reached the last 16 of the Champions League – as proof that they have not had an easy ride.

\”It\’s still been hard for us, we\’ve had the Champions League during the week and then on to playing weekend games is hard,\” he added. \”We\’ve been lucky enough Rangers weren\’t in the league but the main thing is we have won this league and it\’s been a great season.

\”Hopefully we can stick together a long time. The lads are doing themselves proud week in week out. To bring something home for the fans, it means a lot for us.\”

Lennon, who was sitting in the stands after a three-game touchline ban which hung over him from last year was triggered when he was found guilty of a misconduct charge in midweek, was understandably elated.

\”Winning the league is a very special moment, I want the players to enjoy it,\” he said. \”We were okay in the first half, second half we really came through. It\’s a great way to win the championship.

\”While I\’m here I want to win things and winning the championship is always very special. It\’s a privilege to manage this club and to win this championship again, I\’m so proud for the players and the fans – they\’re the people who make this club what it is.\”

Of the Celtic Park crowd, Lennon added: \”They\’re just unique in world football and they give the players an extra step, they inspire the team.\”

Hooper, Celtic\’s top scorer this season, is keen to celebrate their league triumph but is aware they will need to re-focus for their Scottish Cup final against Hibernian on May 26.

\”The main thing is celebrating this first and then the final on the 26th and win that and do the double,\” he said. \”We\’ve got a great squad, we\’ve played really well and it showed in the Champions League and it showed today that we\’re really good at home and we can beat anyone.\”

Hooper has been linked with several Premier League clubs, and when asked if he will still be a Celtic player next season he cryptically added: \”We\’ll see won\’t we?\”
