Begovic looks to cup for recovery

Asmir Begovic insists there will be no Chelsea hangover for Stoke City when they face Crystal Palace for a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Manager Tony Pulis feels he will have to \”mend some broken hearts\” in his dressing room after the humiliating manner Chelsea ended Stoke\’s unbeaten home run which stretched back to February 2012.

The 4-0 victory was Stoke\’s biggest margin of defeat on their own turf in the league since 1999 and will have encouraged Ian Holloway\’s Championship side ahead of the third-round replay, following the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park in the original tie.

Begovic, who could be replaced by back-up \’keeper Thomas Sorensen for the replay as manager Pulis looks to make some changes to his shell-shocked side, insists whoever is called upon will show no ill effects from the Chelsea mauling.

\”We are all looking forward to the cup game, because it is an opportunity to put things right from the Chelsea match,\” said Begovic.

\”We know that Crystal Palace will be tough and they will come with the attitude that they have nothing to lose in the game and everything to gain, but we want to put things right after what was just a bad day at the office for all of us.\”

Begovic believes the pride Stoke took from making the Britannia such an inhospitable place will rally Pulis\’ players to put together another impressive streak of unbeaten games and there is no suggestion that the air of invincibility in front of their own supporters has been lifted.

\”It\’s important for us to remember who we are. We aren\’t one of the big boys in the League, so we have to take pride in the fact that we have gone so long unbeaten here,\” said Begovic.

\”It\’s very unusual for any team to go almost 12 months without a defeat at home, let alone a club like ourselves, who are looking to break into the top half of the table for the first time.

\”We are proud of our record here, and now we will do everything we can to go on another run like this one. At the end of the day, it is only one defeat, and we won\’t allow that to undo all of the hard work we have done over the last year or so.\”
